The 2nd East African Sexual Reproductive Health Rights Conference 2025

The East African Regional Institute of Legal and Policy Studies had the privilege of participating in the 2nd East African Youth Symposium on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) held in Kampala – Uganda in December, 2025 

The 2-day symposium convened young leaders, policymakers, civil society actors and SRHR champions from across the East African region, who all came together to engage in meaningful dialogue, share experiences and discuss collective pathways for advancing sexual and reproductive health, grounded in human rights across the East African Region.

Mineral Wealth Conference 2025

The Institute was honored to take part in the Women in Mining Breakfast held during the 14th Annual Mineral Wealth Conference held on 25th September 2025 at Kampala Serena Hotel. The event brought together women leaders from diverse backgrounds to engage in insightful discussions on advancing gender inclusion in the mining sector through policy reforms.

One of the Institute’s strategic priorities is to promote Gender, Equity and Inclusion (GEI) across the East African region and participating in this forum presented to us an opportunity to better understand the challenges faced by women in mining and highlighted the need for stronger advocacy and action.

National Social Protection Dialogue 2025

On 28th November 2025, the Institute had the opportunity of taking part in the National Social Protection Dialogue 2025 which was held at Serena Hotel in Kampala. This engagement convened various stakeholders including: policymakers, development partners, researchers and civil society actors among others, who had an opportunity to assess progress and chart the future of Uganda’s Social Protection Systems. Organized by the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development (MGLSD) in collaboration with the Expanding Social Protection (ESP) Programme and international partners, the event highlighted the urgent need for inclusive, lifecycle-based protection mechanisms to combat challenges of poverty and inequality.

Technical Assistance Training on building a gender-responsive and disability inclusive social protection in Uganda

The East African Regional Institute and Policy Studies (EARLPS) was invited on the 4th & 5th of November 2025, to join Government stakeholders and Civil Society Organisations in a 2 day training on building a gender-responsive and disability inclusive social protection in Uganda under the Social Protection Technical Assistance, Advice and Resources (STAAR Project). This training  aimed at building the capacity of government stakeholders in Uganda to integrate gender and disability inclusion into the design, monitoring and evaluation of social protection programmes in Uganda. The training was designed to address some gaps identified by the STAAR Team in relation to the existing social protection policy framework and its application into programme design, practical implementation , monitoring and evaluation.

Development of the Women With Disabilities’ Framework for Climate Change Policy Engagement

The East African Regional Institute and Policy Studies (EARLPS) in partnership with Youth for Green Communities (YGC) and the Centre for Minority Rights Development (CEMIRIDE) organized a 2 day country specific engagement from 11th – 12th of September 2025, that attracted more than 40 stakeholders from different spaces, with an aim of developing the Women With Disabilities’ Framework for Climate Change Policy and Negotiations.

This framework is one of the activities of the 3-year Strengthening the Voices of Women with Disability to actively participate in Climate Change Policy and Negotiations (STREVOW) project funded by the Africa Climate Change Fund (ACCF) of the African Development Bank (AFDB)
